Alejandra is a young scholar passionate about the performing arts and STEM. She plans to major in Computer Science at Yale University and looks forward to using the skills to improve public policy. At the high school, Alejandra has pursued her interest in social justice and its intersection with technology.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY

Angela, is a first-generation Latina eager to make an impact. She will be attending Boston University majoring in Neuroscience on the pre-med track with a minor in French Studies. She hopes to learn more languages, so she can help more patients in her career as a physician, and can advocate for under-represented groups.

Angelina Nhiv
PITZER COLLEGE

Angelina Nhiv, born to a Cambodian refugee, is a first-generation graduate raised and educated in Lynn, Massachusetts. She will attend Pitzer College where she plans to pursue a combined major in Cognitive Science and Sociology with a minor in Environmental Analysis. Angelina has been an active member of her community as a teen health ambassador, community farmer, and a volunteer in various community events.

Aratza Treminio Flores
SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY

Aratza Treminio was born in Nicaragua and came to the US when she was 12 years old. She will be attending Salem State University where she plans on studying Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Sociology. Her goal and passion is to understand and address how social, cultural, economic and physiological factors can have an impact on a person’s health.

Deborah Adebanjo
BOSTON UNIVERSITY

Deborah was born in Nigeria and moved to the US at a young age. She is an avid advocate for social, racial, and environmental justice. Currently she is a youth director at the mayor’s youth council, and leads a group called RACE in her high school which brings racial topics to the forefront of student body awareness, while celebrating the school’s diversity.

Famous Olohireme
UMASS BOSTON

Olohireme is originally from Nigeria and moved to the United States when she was 15. She enjoys dancing and is a huge K-Pop fan. She plans to study Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Boston to achieve her goal of becoming a pharmacist. As a first-generation student, she hopes to be a role model to her younger siblings and young black women hoping to go into the STEM field.

Katherine Torres
WELLESLEY COLLEGE

Katherine is a first-generation Nicaraguan-American who is passionate about serving her Latino and immigrant community. She will be majoring in Sociology at Wellesley College. Outside of her community work, Katherine is an avid concert-goer and dancer. Katherine hopes to continue paving the way for other students of color and empowering them to take up space and make their voices heard.

Minh Mai
NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY

Minh is a recent graduate of Noble and Greenough School (Nobles), and is headed to Northeastern University. Minh is passionate about entrepreneurship, is an avid hiker, and wants to explore and travel. Minh is also a chronic saver and prides himself in offering tips on how to save your hard-earned money!

PhuongAn Bui is from Vietnam and immigrated to the United States in 2018. She will be attending Northeastern University where she plans to pursue a combined major in Computer Science and Business Administration. She is passionate about entrepreneurship. She wants to create helpful tools for the community through the power of coding and empower women in the STEM industry.

Rolando Mendez
LEHIGH UNIVERSITY

Rolando was born in Guatemala. At age 11, he immigrated with his mother to the United States to seek a more stable life and better educational opportunities. He will be attending Lehigh University as a first-generation student with the goal of pursuing a business degree. He is passionate about helping others and hopes to support other dreamers like him.

Sami Motassim
CORNELL UNIVERSITY

Sami Motassim, From Lynn, Massachusetts, is a rising freshman at Cornell Engineering planning to study Computer Science. He is the salutatorian of his class and the leader of his school's Math and Programming team. He aims to use his degree to share his passion by inspiring young children to pursue STEM careers. He also aspires to be an integral part of the growth of Artificial intelligence in Morocco by transferring such opportunities to his native country.

Tho Nguyen
UMASS AMHERST

Tho’s family immigrated from Vietnam to the United States to seek better opportunities. As a first-generation college student, she hopes to show her parents that their choice to leave their country behind for the future generation was the best investment they have ever made. She plans to major in Accounting at UMass Amherst to help manage her own and her family’s finances.
